Step by Step Guide to Open Zerodha Trading & Demat account
PREPARATION:
Zerodha needs the below-listed Documents to open a Demat and trading account and the process is completely online.
Here are the documents required to open a Demat and trading account at Zerodha. It is preferred to have the soft copy of these documents as you’ve to upload them during the account opening process:
- PAN CARD
- Aadhar Card
- Canceled cheque/ Bank statement
- Your Signature on a piece of paper
- Passport size photos

Account opening charges at Zerodha
- Demat and Trading Account: Rs 200
- Commodity Account: Rs 100
If you would prefer to trade in both equity and commodity market then you have to make a payment of Rs 200+Rs 100 = Rs 300. Choose accordingly.
STEP 1:
The first step is to SignUp using your mobile number and verifying the OTP. Then you’ll be required to enter your PAN, Bank account, Aadhar verification, and personal details to continue with the SignUp.

Enter Mobile number and click on continue, ensure the mobile number you using is the same number associated with Aadhar so the process becomes very easy, generate OTP and enter the same and verify, proceed to Step 2.
STEP 2:
Personal Details Verification
You need to verify your Email ID here, ensure you enter your correct email address and you will receive an OTP to verify your email id. This is the same email to which you’ll receive all your future correspondence from Zerodha.
Step 3:
Permanent Account Number and Date of Birth Verification
Enter your PAN and date of birth (DOB) details in the field provided. Upload the PAN card soft copy and submit
Step 4:
Complete the account opening payment
For equity– pay Rs 200
For Commodities – pay Rs 100
If you need both then choose both equity and commodity and pay a sum of 300Rs. Pay through UPI or Net-banking/Card payment is also available, remember to screenshot the same. on payment, you will get a Congratulations message confirming the payments and receive an email on the same.
STEP 5:
After completing the payment, it will ask you to connect Aadhar details via Digilocker
Here, you need to create a ‘DigiLocker: Towards Paperless Governance’ account and link your Aadhar with it. Click on ‘Connect to DigiLocker’ and this will open a new page to sign up to Digilocker using your phone number.
Once Connected to Aadhar Number then you can authenticate to access the Aadhar details to verify.
After entering your DigiLocker account, select the Aadhar card. If you’re just created a new account, enter your Aadhar number and verify using OTP received on your phone.
Step 6:
Bank Mandates for Payment Payin and Payouts from Zerodha
Here, you need to fill up details of Bank Account Number, IFSC codes, Bank Name and Branch’s Code etc. Along with this, you have to fill in additional details like Marital status, Father’s details, etc.
Step 7:
Next is IPV Verification over webcam/phone.
This is more of an interesting process, IPV or In-person-verification is a process of self-verifying by the law of SEBI. It is compulsory to go through the in-person verification process to open a Demat and trading account.
Here, on the screen – an OTP will be Displayed and you need to write down this OTP show on a piece of paper or your PC/smartphone. Then, hold the same up to your chest and take a selfy or webcam snap and update the same.

Step 8:
Further, upload scanned copy of the documents: Bank Account Proof, your current signature, PAN. Income Proof is optional & only required if you want to trade Futures & Options, currency, and commodities.
Step 9:
Time to eSign.
Click on ‘eSign Equity’ button and proceed to the next step. You will receive an OTP and enter the same to verify. Fill in the required details. Basically, enter your Aadhaar number, tick the checkbox and click on ‘Request OTP’ button. Here, enter the OTP number received. With this the eSign process for Equity is complete. Also, for commodity trades – ‘eSign commodity’ similarly.
Step 10:
POA Application Submission
Once you’ve completed the application sign up, there is an option to download the Demat POA (Power of attorney), it is mandatory and everyone must fill it up themself and courier it to the below-mentioned address.

Thus, the completion of the account verification process and on completion within 48 hours you will receive USER LOGIN ID to your email Address and Password in a separate email. Download Kite App from google play store or App Store and start trading/investing.
